Meadowlyns Dream Shih Tzu
Where Your Shih Tzu Dreams Come True!
Health, Quality, Beauty, Honesty, and Service NOT Quantity
Thank you for visting my site. I hope you enjoy your visit. I am a hobby breeder of AKC Shih Tzu.  My mission is to breed quality puppies in a loving and clean environment.  Each of my dogs is treated with dignity and respect.  My dogs are my beloved pets and are current on all their vaccinations, groomed and spoiled.  When choosing to buy a puppy from Meadowlyns what you will get is a well rounded, healthy and happy furbaby that is ready to be a member of your family!
Before Considering a Shih Tzu as Your Next Family Member

Although the Shih Tzu is a fairly easy dog to take care of, they do not do well being left alone for long periods of time. They are a very social little dog and demand human companionship. They are fine being left alone for 7-8 hours a day and are soooo happy to see you when you get home. But beyond that, they tend to get depressed and can act out if they are left alone for long periods of time or not given some "one on one" time. I find that even with all of the dogs that I have, it is imperative that I hold, brush and play with each dog sometime during the day. They will compete for attention and I do my best to make sure their social needs are met. Even bath time can be a fun time for them. They like the human touch, the brushing and the pampering. The others all watch and wait in turn. It's really quite comical. You'd think they'd run for the hills.

The times they do appear to want to run for the hills is when I prepare a puppy for his new home. I make the puppy goody bag, bathe the puppy and and put a little bow on the puppy and into a little soft crate for safe keeping and to stay clean and "presentable" until the new parents come.By the way, it doesn't always work out that way, the puppy can make him or herself a mess!  Well, they are starting to catch on. They know when the bags are being made someone is leaving. Shih Tzu are so smart. They kind of get quiet as to say not me....I'll just hide over here for awhile.

Their exercise needs are minimal and a short walk should suffice. They do love their walks and they walk with such pride. They have such a proud little walk, holding their heads and tails so high. Look at me, I'm out for a walk! They especially like to go out when wearing a new jacket or sweater, they are such show-offs!

Their upkeep is most intensive in the brushing of their hair, yes, they actually have hair. A quick brush-out daily will keep up their coat so you don't have to deal with mats later. Either that or you can keep the hair short so it's not a problem. It is important that you consider the grooming expense when making your decision if this is the right dog for you.

You need to research the breed to make sure that this is the dog that you want. Shih Tzu's live 12-14 years and that's a considerable commitment. One thing for sure, if you decide on a Shih Tzu, you'll get back what you give 10 fold. They are incredible! AND NO, they are not yappy.....But, they are very good watch dogs and do bark and carry on when they know something is not right. They might be small but they have the heart of gold. In my opinion, there is not a better companion dog. They are simply amazing!

Meadowlyn's specialty is bringing quality AKC Shih Tzu in small standard and tiny type,  which some call Imperials to the greater Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia and surrounding areas in Washington state and parts of nearby Oregon. My puppies usually grow to be in the 4 to 9 pound range, most of them being 7-8 pounds. I am familiar with what my particular breedings produce so I am fairly accurate at weight estimates. I don't chance breeding very small females, instead, I use small males to produce the smaller puppies. You don't have to have your pet shipped from out of state when you have an experienced breeder here locally  who works with the best of the best breeders across the United States and has brought these dogs into my program to create the very best lines possible. We now have some of the top lines here in Seattle and I am producing awesome pups right here! I will continue to replace dogs when they retire with dogs in this catagory.  Extensive research has been done by me to achieve the rare colors, nice flat noses, short legs and cobby bodies. Above all, I put emphasis on health and temperament. I have learned much in a network with other breeders across the United States and have applied this knowledge to my breeding. I continue to learn and grow as we discover new tidbits of information about the breed and this information will always be applied to my breeding program. I will, from time to time, have females available who are retiring that are about 4 years old. I am careful to make sure that they are socialized and can make the transition to go into loving homes and be able to walk on a leash, ride in a car, be potty trained for the most part and be healthy both physically and mentally. It is hard to let them go but by screening potential homes, I find that I am able to place them and feel good about it. They will go to their new homes up to date on their shots and spayed and I will send them with their medical records and their history. I often include baby and other pictures during their time with me.
